The "Rally for Remembrance"
The
"Rally for Remembrance" is a project that was first thought of by Simon Angel MBE and a group of ex-servicemen who first met at Tywhitt House, a convalescent home for ex-servicemen’s mental welfare i.e. (Combat Stress). They got together and decided they would like to raise money for the charities that have helped them in their plight to get back to normality as much as they could, so the idea came up of the “Rally of Remembrance”.
As Simon is physically impaired due to his former service life an idea was thought of that he would attempt to travel from
John O’Groats to Lands End entirely on a mobility scooter as this was as much as they could achieve because of ailments from his former service career, with the help of a back-up team comprising again of ex-military friends also from Combat Stress.

The “Rally for Remembrance” is planned to go ahead with a start date of 01/04/2011. Planning ahead from this date they aim to cover an average of 30 miles/day on a journey that will take roughly 5 weeks/30-35 days until they arrive at their final destination in Lands End.
The
Royal British Legion and
Help for Heroes charities are at the heart of their attempt and they are sure they’re going to raise a hefty sum to help not only the servicemen and women who are being killed and injured in theatres such as Iraq and Afghanistan, but also the personnel who have in the past given their all for Queen and country and for those who have served with honour and pride.
With the aid of
your support they hope not only to succeed in their quest but to bring to attention the plight of all serving and non serving men and women by way of maximum publicity all the way down through Great Britain. They will be contacting local radio, local and national television, stopping off to conduct interviews at prominent military historical landmarks, for example, the new war memorial which has been erected in Birmingham for the fallen men and women in Afghanistan, also Wooten Bassett is a town they would like to pass through amongst many others.
This plan WILL go ahead. They are a committed team who have found each other through Combat Stress and all have committed to a common cause and by hook or by crook they WILL succeed. This is their way of saying thank you to the serving men and women and more to the point, remembering the sacrifices of the people of the past.
Thanks very much for taking the time to read this.
SIMON ANGEL MBE
